About ReadingKit
Hi, I am Bog.
I have always loved absorbing new knowledge and skills, but reading was a struggle. I’d start books with
enthusiasm, only to lose momentum halfway through. Moreover, transfering the notes I was taking was such a
nightmare.
So I've decided to create my own app - ReadingKit, that would help me with this struggle and turn reading
into a
habit that sticks.
ReadingKit is designed to do the following:
- allow to add as many books as I want
- for each book, be able to log each reading session (how many pages I have read)
- allow to easily add the notes I'm taking (typically by scanning the highlighted text using the camera)
- allow to add reminders for when I want to read
- see the progress of the book I'm reading, and build momentum.
On top of that, I recommend the following:
- Torture your books by
- highlighting the sentences you find interesting
- writing comments in the margins (does something you've read applies to something in your
life?, is there something you disagree with?, what would you have done differently?)
- Summarizing chapters in the margins
- Re-reading: take some time to synthesize your notes. Transfer them in an online doc (I use one doc per
book genre). This will help you
connect the dots and see the bigger picture.
- T-shape reading: read outside your field to build a broad base of knowledge, and then dive deep into
areas that interest you most.
- Become a quiter: Stop if you don't like it anymore. Read 100pages - your age, and if you still don't
like it, stop. You've given it a fair shot.
- Don't stress: read at your own page, do it with intention.
- Always carry a book with you.
- Find your reading environment: for me it's at the beach, or in the morning with a coffee, and anytime I
am waiting (in the queue, in the car, etc).
Hope ReadingKit can help you,
Bog
